Social and Coffee Hour

by Fr. Bill Van Oss

It is nice to be hearing some good news regarding COVID these days. The positivity rate is around 5% for the first time in several months. The number of COVID patients in the hospital is falling. It appears there is much less community spread than there was just a few weeks ago. After consulting with the Medical Advisory Committee, I have decided that we can reinstate social and coffee hours.

The weekends of October 23/24 and 30/31 social hour following the Saturday service and coffee hour following the Sunday service will be held outside. Beginning the weekend of November 6/7 we will be back inside.

The sign up sheet to host a social or coffee hour is posted on the bulletin board outside the kitchen.  You can also sign up by emailing or calling the parish office.  Please sign up to host one!

We are also planning to have the annul Beer and Brats on Wednesday, November 3rd. The prayer service will begin at 6:00 pm with the meal to follow in the parish hall (COVID permitting). Otherwise, the meal will be outside.

Also, remember that we are offering a series entitled “Re-Discovering The Episcopal Church” on Zoom Wednesday evenings at 6:00. More details can be found in this Friday Brief and in the Red Door.

Finally, I’ll leave you with this thought from Br. Keith Nelson of the Society of St. John the Evangelist entitled “reply.” “God calls us each by name: in impossible joy and unthinkable suffering; in the need of another, communicated clearly or barely recognized; in the revelation of tasks that seem beyond our capacity; in the love of those who share our table. The simplest task, and the work of a lifetime, is the reply – in free and loving obedience: Here I am.”

Know that I am here for you.

Peace & Blessings,

Moving Forward Updates from Fr. Bill

By Fr. Bill Van Oss 20 Dec, 2023
Today's Excitement Dear Friends, Today was a day to celebrate! LCEC trucks arrived to install the new meter and energize it so the new HVAC system in the sanctuary can be started up! Then a couple hours later, we passed the City of Sanibel final inspection and we were given the Certificate of Completion; the final step in our permit process which started last May. We are very grateful to Councilwoman Holly Smith, City Manager Dana Souza and all the city and LCEC employees who assisted in these final steps and of course to all the FP workers and their subs for all their hard work these past several months and the Property Restoration Team; the working group was there to receive the good news today. We are very busy getting the spaces ready for opening weekend starting with our 4th Advent services this Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 8am and 10:30am (livestreamed). Then we will have 3 Christmas Services at 4pm, 8pm (livestreamed) and 10:30am. Thanks to the volunteer teams who have been washing dishes in the kitchen, putting books on the bookshelf, hanging wreaths and a 100 other details. It is a stunningly beautiful space and we can't wait for all to experience it again for the first time in 15 months! Bill +
