Yoga: Spirit in Motion
Held weekly in the St. Michael's parish hall Thursdays at 9:00am by certified instructor JoEllen Simons. Also starting December 6 a second class will be held on Saturdays at 9am.
Yoga is a great way to increase flexibility, reduce stress and mental clarity as well as harmonize the body, mind, and spirit. There is no class fee but we do have a donation basket at the class with contributions going directly to JoEllen. Bring a yoga mat and water bottle. We also have some mats for participants to use.
“My name is JoEllen Simons. I am a Connecticut native and a passionate yoga instructor since 2005. My journey began alongside my career as a personal trainer, focusing on balance and core strength. I believe it is important to build a strong core and work on balance especially as we age. I’ve taught yoga in Connecticut, Charleston, and now Sanibel. We started visiting Sanibel when our two girls were very young and as all families we fell in love with its charms. Our dream was to move here when the girls were ready for College. I feel truly blessed to have that dream come true. My love of biking the island has grown along with the number of shells we have on display at our home! Being given the opportunity to teach yoga on Sanibel is the crowning jewel of this journey.
I hold two RYT 200-hour certifications from The Yoga Shop and Lotus Gardens, also 15 hours in paddleboard yoga from Lotus Gardens. I am a certified Les Mills BodyFlow instructor since 2005 and continue to practice. Through all my years of teaching, I've had the joy of working with individuals ranging from young children to those in their 80s. As a result of this I have learned how to adjust my teaching and options for all levels.
I truly believe that teaching yoga has brought more joy into my life than taking yoga. Some of my dearest friendships started just by them walking into my class. While I've been trained in various yoga styles, I have a special love for Vinyasa Flow and Gentle Yoga. I look forward to making each class special with music, reflection and meditation.”
