Moving Forward Update #25

by Fr. Bill Van Oss

Dear Friends,

I hope you enjoyed some rest and relaxation during the Thanksgiving weekend. We started off the season of Advent with a fun presentation of the resources available during the service yesterday. Packets were distributed and will be available on Wednesday at Peace and are also able to be downloaded on our website,
https://www.saintmichaels-sanibel.org/advent   Musical offerings (2 of which are highlighted below), prayer opportunities like the Blue Christmas service we are collaborating on with Peace and St. Peter's Lutheran, a Way of Love Journey through Advent series on Monday mornings at 10am, ways to be of service to the community through a toy drive and food collection; so many ways to enter into this season of waiting. Check out our website for more information.

I also encourage you to attend tomorrow's zoom on Insurance Issues for those affected by Hurricane Ian. Amanda Boge, Co-founder of My Florida Insurance will be with us to give insurance tips and answer general questions. The zoom link is:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/7022884993  Meeting ID: 702 288 4993

I am looking forward to taking some time off later this week to spend time as a family, and will be back on Saturday.

Sanibel Resources:

The Sanibel Rec Center is opening starting tomorrow from 8am-5pm and you do not need to be a member to use the facilities including the weight/cardio room.  if you need a place to rest, air conditioning, rest rooms, or a shower, those areas will be available.

A version of Sanibel Luminary will be held this Friday from 6-8pm at the Bell Tower Shops with some of the Sanibel small businesses having pop up shops, a choir and tree lighting.

The City is now doing updates once a week on Tuesdays, I encourage you to watch it for lots of helpful information.

Moving Forward Updates from Fr. Bill

By Fr. Bill Van Oss 20 Dec, 2023
Today's Excitement Dear Friends, Today was a day to celebrate! LCEC trucks arrived to install the new meter and energize it so the new HVAC system in the sanctuary can be started up! Then a couple hours later, we passed the City of Sanibel final inspection and we were given the Certificate of Completion; the final step in our permit process which started last May. We are very grateful to Councilwoman Holly Smith, City Manager Dana Souza and all the city and LCEC employees who assisted in these final steps and of course to all the FP workers and their subs for all their hard work these past several months and the Property Restoration Team; the working group was there to receive the good news today. We are very busy getting the spaces ready for opening weekend starting with our 4th Advent services this Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 8am and 10:30am (livestreamed). Then we will have 3 Christmas Services at 4pm, 8pm (livestreamed) and 10:30am. Thanks to the volunteer teams who have been washing dishes in the kitchen, putting books on the bookshelf, hanging wreaths and a 100 other details. It is a stunningly beautiful space and we can't wait for all to experience it again for the first time in 15 months! Bill +
