by Fr. Bill Van Oss

Dear Friends,

This week we begin a series of Neighborhood Gatherings in person or via zoom.  I highly encourage you to attend one that works in your schedule. Please RSVP by email or phone to the host. The City of Sanibel has not had an update for a couple weeks, but had one tonight and here are some of the highlights.

- The Sanibel Farmer's Market will be returning to the parking lot of Jerry's Foods this Sunday.

- City officials have been working with our representatives to get some type of mail service restored on Sanibel. Residents were informed via email last week that mail service would not be restored until late summer 2023, but there is hope that a temporary solution could be reached much earlier.  Residents are encouraged to continue to email our Senators and House of Representatives members.

-CHR has 29 units that are habitable and 44 units that are potentially able to be occupied, but challenges still exist.

-The next public meeting will be the City Council meeting on January 17 at 9am at Big Arts and the public will be allowed to attend.

-Beach parking lots are still closed but it is hoped to have a couple beach parks open in February. Large debris on the beaches has been cleared by Crowder Gulf.

-Volunteers are needed for beach clean ups sponsored by SCCF, you can
sign up here; and cleaning along San Cap Road this Saturday sponsored by Ding Darling. This is a great way to get a couple fellow parishioners, friends or family together and make a big difference.

- January 12, this Thursday, is the last day to apply for FEMA disaster assistance 800-621-3362 and/or the SBA low interest loan, 800-659-2955.

Hope to see you at a neighborhood gathering;
Bill+

Moving Forward Updates from Fr. Bill

By Fr. Bill Van Oss 20 Dec, 2023
Today's Excitement Dear Friends, Today was a day to celebrate! LCEC trucks arrived to install the new meter and energize it so the new HVAC system in the sanctuary can be started up! Then a couple hours later, we passed the City of Sanibel final inspection and we were given the Certificate of Completion; the final step in our permit process which started last May. We are very grateful to Councilwoman Holly Smith, City Manager Dana Souza and all the city and LCEC employees who assisted in these final steps and of course to all the FP workers and their subs for all their hard work these past several months and the Property Restoration Team; the working group was there to receive the good news today. We are very busy getting the spaces ready for opening weekend starting with our 4th Advent services this Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 8am and 10:30am (livestreamed). Then we will have 3 Christmas Services at 4pm, 8pm (livestreamed) and 10:30am. Thanks to the volunteer teams who have been washing dishes in the kitchen, putting books on the bookshelf, hanging wreaths and a 100 other details. It is a stunningly beautiful space and we can't wait for all to experience it again for the first time in 15 months! Bill +
