Moving Forward #54

by Fr. Bill Van Oss

Dear Friends,

I'm excited to share with you this week's video which includes one of the improvements we were able to make to our facilities. We have removed the wall that separated the Parish Hall from the Periwinkle Room to open up the parish hall.  We have added sliding doors that will lead out to a new deck area in front. We believe that this will allow for better use of the parish hall, more natural light in that area and tying in the outdoor space to give a more open and welcoming feeling. The video also has a full tour of The Gathering Place which now has electricity and plumbing. Each day brings it nearer to completion.

The Property Restoration Team met this afternoon, as they have been every other week for several months. My continued thanks to them for all their hard work. Thank you to Amy Nowacki, our architect (and choir member and soloist extraordinaire) and Marco Dumont, our project consultant for all their efforts as well. At the meeting today, PRT Chair Chuck Ketteman also shared that we are formalizing what Sue has been doing for quite a while now, being the "second set of eyes on site."  She will be the Project Coordinator.   She will take care of accepting and signing off on all finishes and contents, working with FP on the daily details, and working closely with Joanne Syversen, Chair of the Contents Committee.  That group has countless decisions on contents and finishes and are ramping up their efforts.  I will be taking on some of Sue's other responsibilities to enable her to take this on. Marco will sign off on technical aspects of the project and continue to oversee the quality of workmanship and coordinating the HVAC, plumbing, etc. We have a great team working hard and I'm very appreciative of everyone's dedication and passion for this endeavor. I continue to be impressed that we are one of the busiest job sites on Sanibel thanks to the tireless efforts of FP Property Restoration and all of the decision makers at St. Michael's.  I also have an exciting announcement regarding the new church bus that you will be seeing in the Friday brief.

Enjoy the video!

Peace,

Restoration Update June 21

Moving Forward Updates from Fr. Bill

By Fr. Bill Van Oss 20 Dec, 2023
Today's Excitement Dear Friends, Today was a day to celebrate! LCEC trucks arrived to install the new meter and energize it so the new HVAC system in the sanctuary can be started up! Then a couple hours later, we passed the City of Sanibel final inspection and we were given the Certificate of Completion; the final step in our permit process which started last May. We are very grateful to Councilwoman Holly Smith, City Manager Dana Souza and all the city and LCEC employees who assisted in these final steps and of course to all the FP workers and their subs for all their hard work these past several months and the Property Restoration Team; the working group was there to receive the good news today. We are very busy getting the spaces ready for opening weekend starting with our 4th Advent services this Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 8am and 10:30am (livestreamed). Then we will have 3 Christmas Services at 4pm, 8pm (livestreamed) and 10:30am. Thanks to the volunteer teams who have been washing dishes in the kitchen, putting books on the bookshelf, hanging wreaths and a 100 other details. It is a stunningly beautiful space and we can't wait for all to experience it again for the first time in 15 months! Bill +
