Important: Please Read

We are seeing an increase in COVID-19 infections in our community and throughout the US. Thankfully, we are not seeing a significant increase in hospitalizations and deaths, so it appears that most cases are mild with people recovering within a few days.  Even though this appears to be the case, it is important for us to continue to be vigilant and to take this disease seriously. It can still be very serious, especially for those who are immune compromised or who have underlying health conditions. It is our Christian duty to do everything we can to protect the vulnerable.

Here are some of the latest recommendations:

  • First, and perhaps most importantly, if you are not feeling well STAY HOME. You may have COVID or the flu or some other kind of infection. Whatever it is, you don’t want to spread it around. Stay put.
  • Free COVID-19 test kits are available at https://www.covid.gov/tests  It is a good idea to order them now so you have one on hand when you need it. We also have test kits available here at St. Michael’s. You can call the office, and it will be placed outside for pickup.
  • Effective anti-viral treatments are available if taken early. Consult your doctor as soon as possible if you test positive. More information about anti-virals can be found here: https://floridahealthcovid19.gov/treatments/treatmentlocator/
  • If you have been exposed to someone with COVID, you do not need to isolate, but you should wear a mask for 10 days. More information on what to do if you were exposed can be found here.
  • If you test positive and you have been here at St. Michael’s or at the Ark, please let Wendy Warner know via phone or email so we can inform those you might have been in contact with.
  • Obviously, it is ALWAYS perfectly acceptable to wear a mask if that makes you feel more comfortable.

Here are the CDC’s recommendations for what to do if you are exposed to someone with COVID-19 and what to do if you test positive:  https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/quarantine-isolation.html

Moving Forward Updates from Fr. Bill

By Fr. Bill Van Oss 20 Dec, 2023
Today's Excitement Dear Friends, Today was a day to celebrate! LCEC trucks arrived to install the new meter and energize it so the new HVAC system in the sanctuary can be started up! Then a couple hours later, we passed the City of Sanibel final inspection and we were given the Certificate of Completion; the final step in our permit process which started last May. We are very grateful to Councilwoman Holly Smith, City Manager Dana Souza and all the city and LCEC employees who assisted in these final steps and of course to all the FP workers and their subs for all their hard work these past several months and the Property Restoration Team; the working group was there to receive the good news today. We are very busy getting the spaces ready for opening weekend starting with our 4th Advent services this Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 8am and 10:30am (livestreamed). Then we will have 3 Christmas Services at 4pm, 8pm (livestreamed) and 10:30am. Thanks to the volunteer teams who have been washing dishes in the kitchen, putting books on the bookshelf, hanging wreaths and a 100 other details. It is a stunningly beautiful space and we can't wait for all to experience it again for the first time in 15 months! Bill +
