A Litany of Thanksgiving

by Fr. Bill Van Oss

Thanksgiving Day is next week, and our Prayer Book has a wonderful thanksgiving litany prayer (p. 837) that I commend for your use on Thanksgiving or anytime:

Let us give thanks to God our Father for all his gifts so freely bestowed upon us.

For the beauty and wonder of your creation, in earth and sky and sea, we thank you, Lord.

For all that is gracious in the lives of men and women, revealing the image of Christ, we thank you, Lord.

For our daily food and drink, our homes and families, and our friends, we thank you, Lord.

For minds to think, and hearts to love, and hands to serve, we thank you, Lord.

For health and strength to work, and leisure to rest and play, we thank you, Lord.

For the brave and courageous, who are patient in suffering and faithful in adversity, we thank you, Lord.

For all valiant seekers after truth, liberty, and justice, we thank you, Lord.

For the communion of saints, in all times and places, we thank you, Lord.

Above all, we give you thanks for the great mercies and promises given to us in Christ Jesus our Lord; to him be praise and glory, with you, O Father, and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen

We will have a service of Eucharist at 10:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. This service will include the baptism of Pedro David Harries Guardado, Grandson of Ellie and John Harries.

Be sure to pick up your Advent in a Bag and Advent Wreath Making Kit which are available after the services this weekend in the parish hall.

I will be offering another porch visit for anyone who would like to meet for informal conversation and “getting to know you” this Tuesday, November 23rd at 4:00 pm. Contact Susan in the parish office to reserve your spot.

Finally, save the date for our New Office Dedication Thursday, December 9th at 5:00 pm. The dedication and ribbon cutting will be followed by a reception in the parish hall.

Peace,

Moving Forward Updates from Fr. Bill

By Fr. Bill Van Oss 20 Dec, 2023
Today's Excitement Dear Friends, Today was a day to celebrate! LCEC trucks arrived to install the new meter and energize it so the new HVAC system in the sanctuary can be started up! Then a couple hours later, we passed the City of Sanibel final inspection and we were given the Certificate of Completion; the final step in our permit process which started last May. We are very grateful to Councilwoman Holly Smith, City Manager Dana Souza and all the city and LCEC employees who assisted in these final steps and of course to all the FP workers and their subs for all their hard work these past several months and the Property Restoration Team; the working group was there to receive the good news today. We are very busy getting the spaces ready for opening weekend starting with our 4th Advent services this Saturday at 5pm and Sunday at 8am and 10:30am (livestreamed). Then we will have 3 Christmas Services at 4pm, 8pm (livestreamed) and 10:30am. Thanks to the volunteer teams who have been washing dishes in the kitchen, putting books on the bookshelf, hanging wreaths and a 100 other details. It is a stunningly beautiful space and we can't wait for all to experience it again for the first time in 15 months! Bill +
